Greenboard is no longer recognized by the International Residential Code (IRC) for use as a substrate in wet areas such as tub and shower surrounds. What this means is you can no longer place ceramic tile directly over greenboard (moisture resistant drywall). You must use concrete, cement board, or Hardy Backer.


Home Contractors Draw More Complaints - Detroit News (Real Estate Section) More people say they're getting bad service from those working in and around their homes. This mounting ire might mirror the growing number of home improvements, says Sheila Adkins of the Better Business Bureau. It saw complaints climb 66% between 2002 and 2004. Carmen Santora, executive director of the Better Contractors Bureau, says costly insurance discourages workers from staying in the business, including competent ones. Scams directed at seniors are an unfortunate trend, he says. And when shady businesses are from out of state, they're tough to catch. But Santora also blames homeowners who just hire the lowest bidder: "The best priced doesn't necessarily mean the best work."
